About Quirkulator
Quirkulator is a library of 493 free, research-based calculators for the parts of life no spreadsheet covers. The internet has ten thousand mortgage calculators and, until we built it, zero tools that could tell you whether cold butter will tear your sourdough, how much your imposter syndrome costs per year, or whether that friendship is drifting or ghosting. We measure the unmeasured — sincerely, transparently, and with working math.
What we make
Every Quirkulator tool is an interactive calculator with a published formula. Our thirteen flagship models cover relational dynamics (ghosting risk, rebound readiness), psychology (shower arguments, imposter syndrome, awkward silences), lifestyle physiology (bed rotting and circadian drift), kitchen physics (butter rheology, boil-time thermodynamics), domestic engineering (bookshelf beam mechanics) and body metrics. Around each flagship sits a collection of focused companion calculators — 493 tools in total — that examine specific angles of the same research: reply-delay analysis, writing streaks, kettle economics, shelf capacity, and hundreds more.
How our models are built
Each calculator starts from real published research: Shannon-Weaver communication theory for the ghosting tools, the Clance Impostor Phenomenon framework for the confidence tools, solid-fat-content rheology for the butter tools, classical beam deflection (δ = 5wL⁴/384EI) for the shelf tools, circadian light-response research for the bed-rotting tools. We then extend that foundation — openly and with stated assumptions — into territory formal science left unmeasured. Every page publishes its formula, its variable weights, worked examples, and interpretation bands, so you can inspect exactly why your score is what it is.
Editorial standards
Three rules govern every page. First, the math must actually run: every score comes from a real computation you can reproduce from the published formula, never a random number in a costume. Second, playful subject, honest treatment: where a model is an order-of-magnitude estimate rather than laboratory truth, the page says so plainly, and our worked examples are generated by the same engines that score your inputs. Third, reflection, not diagnosis: our tools are structured mirrors for thinking about your life, and every sensitive category — psychology, relationships, body metrics — carries explicit guidance about when a professional beats a formula.
Privacy by architecture
Calculator inputs are processed entirely by JavaScript in your browser. They are never transmitted to our servers, never logged, and never seen by us — a design choice, not a policy promise. The full details are in our privacy policy.
Who we are
Quirkulator is an independent web project built by a small team that takes silly questions seriously. We believe the gap between "things people wonder about" and "things with calculators" is one of the internet's most entertaining unsolved problems, and we are closing it thirteen research collections at a time.
Corrections and ideas
Found an error in a formula, a broken band, or a claim that outruns its source? We fix those with genuine gratitude. Have a calculator idea that deserves to exist? Even better. Reach us through the contact page or at contact@quirkulator.com.
